The Music BoxGreetings,
One of the most powerful gifts in our lives – and often in our hands – is music. You don’t have to be a musical genius to understand. Whenever we’re bored, we plug in our headphones and we’re off to a wondrous new world – or when you feel like “pretending” not to hear your mom so you can get out of doing the dishes. If you’re feeling gloomy, an upbeat song is bound to cheer you up. And of course – what would dances and parties be like without the DJ? In the music box, the universal language and linking bridge of music will guide you along your journey towards creating more miracles. Create your own playlist and tune out the rest of the world for a while so you can get back on track – or simply relax and take a break from the stress and pressure of school life, home life, social life, a combination of all or whatever it is you’re dealing with at the moment. Of course, we all have our own tastes in music. So I’m not going to tell you what you need to or don’t need to listen to. I do have my own “cheer up” playlist though just for a suggestion – or reference. A lot of people would lighten up their mood with a jumpy, upbeat song, but if you think Rachmaninov’s The Isle of the Dead is going to cheer you up – by all means, add that to your playlist! Remember – music is a universal language. It’s a bridge that can connect us all. Sometimes we create more distance than the distance that actually exists in our lives. We’re all human – we all need to talk, complain, laugh, cry, get frustrated over something we find completely silly after ten minutes. We all are common on so many levels in so many aspects. Don’t be bothered by the commonalities – let something as ludicrous as yelling at the rock that tripped you connect you to someone else who yells at rocks that trips them. Music is a better way to do that in my opinion. Let yourself get carried away with your favourite song every once in a while – we all need breaks, too, and an excuse to put off homework and dishes so we can snuggle up in blankets with a bag of popcorn and headphones – and tune out our moms (or “pretend” that we don’t hear her). - Mikka |
START Create your Playlist Your first task is to create a compilation of your favourite songs. There’s no limit to quantity or choice. This is solely for your enjoyment – so you can allow yourself a little break from life and temporarily escape into the magical world of music. Perhaps something upbeat and encouraging would brighten your mood and make you want to get up and dance to the beat – but again, Rachmaninov’s The Isle of the Dead works just as well if that’s what you’re into! I’ve posted my personal playlist of “encouraging” songs at the bottom for reference or ideas if you’re interested.
Once you’ve created your playlist, you can write it down and place it inside you Pandora’s gift box if you’d like. Play it once a week or whenever you feel like it. Stay connected to music – it can connect you to so many other wonderful things – perhaps some that you don’t know of yet! |
